The Research unit at Cape Town Tourism (CTT) is the centre for travel and tourism data and intelligence. The research produced by the department measures industry performance, consumer and source market behaviour and perceptions.

Since the impact of COVID-19 on the industry there have been significant changes the reporting produced. From understanding the impact on the industry and the domestic consumer to measuring the recovery of key international source markets. As regulations change both locally and globally and vaccination progress is made, data is more important than ever to assist in the recovery of the sector. Covid-19 intelligence is available here to Cape Town Tourism members. The delivery of reports and insights informs the marketing and strategic planning decisions of CTT and the industry.

Pre-pandemic, the monthly reports tracked visitor movement, key accommodation and attraction data as well as visitor information including spend, reason for visit and activities participated in.
